CONTROLS WHEN IN POSSESSION

PASS / SHOOT

Use to direct your shots and passes. Note that the flight of the ball is very different for each type of pass.

LOW PASS
LOW THROUGH BALL
CHIPPED THROUGH BALL +
LOFTED PASS / CROSS
LOW CROSS X 2
SHOOT

Players with the "Weighted Pass" skill can apply back-spin to long balls for added accuracy. Weighted passes are less likely to go out of bounds, so try exploiting them by playing chipped through balls if you spot any space behind the opposition defense.

Players with a lot of ability may float the ball over defenders.Passing accuracy and speed decrease when moving in the opposite direction to the player's direction, or when the player is charging. Try to maintain a good balance when passing.

Passes in a different direction from the body or when being pressured are more likely to go wrong. Always keep the player's posture in mind to make accurate passes.

DRIBBLING

While dribbling, press to sprint with the ball. However, this reduces ball control. Use both types of dribbling at appropriate times.

DRIBBLING
DASH DRIBBLE +

If an opponent comes towards you at full speed, a small change in direction is usually enough to successfully dodge him. When you try to take a Dash Dribble around a tackling opponent, skilful players may get the ball past the defender by flicking it over them.

SKILL CONTROLS

Use and to pull off feints and dummies (e.g. Rotate full 360). Use your spatial awareness to the full to pull off the right trick!

SHIFT BALANCE
MOVE BALL

If you can quickly dribble the ball past your marker, he may on occasion fall over. Any time you get free of your marker while on the ball, you'll have an increased chance of success when shooting or playing the ball to a team mate.

CLOSE CONTROL

If you need to keep close control of the ball, press while dribbling to exercise CLOSE CONTROL. This skill allows you to constantly face the opposition goal while keeping your opponent at arms length when looking to pass him or to keep the ball under control in restricted space.

CLOSE CONTROL +

SPEED BURST

Double tap the button while dribbling or just before a trap, and you'll immediately receive a speed burst. This can help put distance between you and your marker, but at this speed, the ball is harder to control and more likely to be stolen.

SPEED BURST + ×2

When facing an opponent, try pressing while executing speed burst. This will allow you to nutmeg or run around him.

CONTROLS WHEN OUT OF POSSESSION

PRESSURE

Press to pressure a player who is on the ball. By pressing both and , you can make your player sprint as he closes in on his opponent.

PRESSURE
CHASE DOWN +

When applying pressure, players will attempt to block shots and passes by extending their legs. However, they can also fall for feints and dummies which can leave them chasing shadows. Try reading your opponent's next move carefully before committing yourself to a challenge.

SLIDING TACKLE

Press to lunge feet first at an opponent in an attempt to win back the ball. While the returns are high, so are the risks and a mistimed challenge can easily end up in the concession of a foul or something far worse.

SLIDING TACKLE

TACKLE

Double tap the button to take a stab at stealing the ball from an opponent. Fail to make contact with the ball, and you risk fouling the player.

TACKLE ×2

If you attempt to tackle an opposition player when positioned alongside them, you will perform a Shoulder Barge. You will knock your opponent off-balance and steal the ball, but a foul may be given if you barge into an opponent from the wrong position. Make sure the barge is well-timed and spaced.

JOCKEY

When defending, press and to lock onto your opponent and track him.

JOCKEY +

JOCKEY also slightly enhances your tackling. This makes it easier to deal with opponents who exercise CLOSE CONTROL or pull tight turns.

Aerial Battles

When the ball has been launched into the air, you can use to control the player located nearest to where the ball will land. Try to win the aerial battle by taking the right action, such as stepping back and taking a run up for a powerful header, or positioning your player's body against an opponent to trap the ball. You can adjust the positioning by using while holding .

Quick Body Feint

Move quickly left and right to make small body feint. Spoil the opponent's judgement and exploit a gap to dribble, pass or take a shot.

Shielding the Ball

When opponents come up behind the dribbling player, he sometimes automatically shields the ball. Also, when receiving the ball and an opponent is behind, the player will block the opponent from the ball.
